Money
There is a bank branch and an ATM in the village, but not always with cash available in high season. Pix, the Brazilian instant transfer system, is accepted almost everywhere. Cards work at most restaurants and guesthouses and are less common at beach kiosks and craft stalls. Arrive with some cash.
Connectivity
Mobile signal and internet work well in the centre and along the shore. On the further beaches and dirt roads the signal drops. Most guesthouses have stable wi-fi, which makes the destination viable for remote work.
Health
The municipality has a health unit for basic care. More complex cases are referred to Touros or Natal. There is no large hospital in the village. Bring any regular medication with you, as the local pharmacy carries limited stock.
Sun and wind
The constant wind is deceptive. You feel less heat and burn faster, because the breeze masks the strength of the sun. High-factor sunscreen, a rash vest and water are necessary even on overcast days.
Sea and tide
Most stretches have no lifeguards. The difference between high and low tide is large and transforms some beaches, particularly Tourinhos, which only makes sense at low tide. Check the tide table before planning a trip.
What to pack
Light clothing, a thin windbreaker for the evening, footwear that tolerates sand, sunscreen, insect repellent and a torch or a charged phone. Street lighting is weak in much of the village.
Languages
Portuguese is the everyday language. In guesthouses and kite schools you will commonly find English, Spanish, Italian and French, as many owners are foreign.
Getting around
On foot inside the village. For distant beaches, buggy, 4x4 or a rental car. Bicycles and e-bikes work well over short distances.
